About Me

I am the child of German immigrants.  My dad and his five brothers ended up in Kansas and became farmers.  Their wives, in general, were housewives or homemakers.  My Mom taught me a lot about cooking and how to spend my time doing useful and even artistic things.  I love to cook and savor really good food.  I also like to do a lot of other things in the arts and crafts realm.  From time to time I have listed some of the things on made on Etsy. The bag I’m holding here is actually made from recycled newspaper sleeves (bags)!

I live in Topeka, KS and am a worker for the state.  I have three married brothers and one married sister and two sisters that are nuns.  I have three married children, two sons and a daughter.  We have eight grandkids.  No pets.

  1. Hi,

I just started a web site with a bunch of Kitchen Klatter Recipes from some of the monthly magazines I have from the late 40’s. I thought you would be interested. I love to cook so I decided to post the recipes from that magazine. Happy cooking (I really like your site and the recipes here).

  2. Hello,

I am a PhD student, and I am currently researching Hope Needham’s “The Household” from the Drover’s Journal and its impact in Midwestern women’s lives, particularly with respect to the clippings women saved and other ephemera. I would love to include the columns you’ve posted here in my work. Would you be willing to email me and we could work out details, and maybe get some more information (dates if available, format you found them in, etc) about the column clippings? There is such a wonderful story that needs to be told, and I would very much appreciate your help. I can be reached at sbuck @ drew.edu. I hope to hear from you soon!

    Best,
    Susannah Buck
